Law and Research: an unexpected alliance

Law and Research: an unexpected alliance

When UX researchers think about legal, the first associations might not always be the most positive: incomprehensible regulations, GDPR constraints, delayed research timelines, bureaucratic hurdles. Legal can feel like a department that slows things down.

In this talk, Joeri reveals how legal obligations do not only create work. They can be a source of leverage and insight: a mandate for researchers to do some of their best work. Mandatory legal processes can also be a source of high-quality data for research.

By the end of the webinar, you will have learned how to elevate the conversations with the legal function. You can move beyond asking for requirements that apply to you and your work. You can approach the legal function (i) to explore how you might help them to reduce the organisation’s legal risk; and (ii) ask for access to information the organisation captures.

You will learn about:

  • How the legal function can draw on UXR insights to manage compliance and reduce organisational risk — and how you can position yourself as a valuable partner rather than just a stakeholder asking for requirements
  • How legally required activities generate high-quality data that most researchers never think to access, and how to get it

A company’s legal function can be a powerful ally for researchers.
