Advanced Prompting for UX Professionals

As insights professionals, we keep hearing the same promise: AI will change how we work. Tools that draft our guides, analyse our interviews, and crunch our numbers are already here, and anyone can use them. But using them well is a different skill, and most of us are, honestly, still just fiddling around.

Better prompts alone won’t fix that. The real question is whether you understand what the model is actually doing. That is what this hands-on UXinsight Learning Lab is about.

What is the UXinsight Learning Lab?

The Learning Lab is where the UXR community learns together. We start with the messy reality of AI in research today and turn it into something you can actually use. One trainer, a full day, and a lot of doing: short inputs set the scene, then it’s your turn. Through hands-on exercises and peer work, we turn “I’ve heard of that prompt” into “I know why it works, and when it doesn’t.”

The program

How AI actually works (and where it quietly breaks)

Before we prompt, we look under the hood. What is the model really doing when it answers you, and why does that matter for the quality of your research?

We provoke errors on purpose: fake sources, invented quotes, confident nonsense. Seeing where AI breaks is the fastest way to learn where to trust it and where to keep your hands on the wheel. You leave with a mental model of the tool instead of a bag of tricks.

Prompting as a craft: from creating to analysing

This is the hands-on heart of the day. We work through the prompting types that matter for research: frameworks for building interview guides, “Gated Salami” for analysing transcripts step by step, One-Shot prompts for counting and reporting, and System Prompts for chattable personas.

We also tackle the things AI loves to get wrong (costs, SUS scores, significance tests, correlations) and practise writing prompts that make those results checkable instead of plausible but false.

Translate to your daily practice in peer groups

This Learning Lab is about doing, not just listening. Working in small peer groups, you build and test real prompts on real tasks, then compare notes on what worked and what didn't.

You walk out with prompts, templates, and an everyday checklist you can use the next morning.

UX researcher, founder, and self-declared AI realist

Tara has worked in UX since 1999 and has founded several UX companies along the way. Today she is co-managing director of uintent, an employee-owned international UX research agency based in Hamburg and Munich. More than 2,500 projects have taught her one thing above all: quality comes from experience and systematic process, not from hype.

She runs AI workshops for UX teams in German and English, and she stays deliberately un-hyped about it: AI is a powerful tool, not a miracle cure. Her guiding line, “if you don’t know the prompt, you can’t judge the result”, sums up how she teaches. Expect practice over theory, and trying things out over showing slides.
